Children of this age group are still learning to walk properly. They cannot yet pedal or alternate their feet when using ride on toys. They also haven't developed enough hand-eye coordination to maneuver a steering mechanism effectively. However, they have a high curiosity level. The best ride on toys should: be stable: four wheels instead of three or two, (wheels should be spaced widely apart); be low enough for easy mounting and dismounting; be basic (no pedals or sterring mechanism).

Children Ages 18 – 36 months will enjoy the same features of toddler ride on toys as younger children. However, these children usually love pretend play; toddler ride on toys that look realistic, such as pretend trains, cars, or airplanes. Therefore, the best toddler riding toys are: 4-wheel ride-on, preferably ones which look real or Three-wheeled tricycles.

Battery-powered ride on toys are NOT recommended for this age group.

Many preschoolers (3-5 years old) still enjoy riding on rocking horses and toddler ride on toys. However, they now can also use pedal toys and battery-powered ride on toys.

Pedal Toys, provide much-needed physical exercise. At this age, children can pedal and have the coordination to use a steering wheel or handlebar. Tricycles or four-wheeled vehicles are recommended. At age four or five, children can start to use a bicycle.

A preschooler age 3 onward can move and handle a slow moving battery powered ride on toy. Ideal motorized child ride on toys for this age group are ones which look like the real thing. Cars, scooters, tractors and motorcycles are some of the most popular

Children at this age have better balance and coordination, and are more responsible in that they know what is safe and what is not.

At this age, children know how to ride a bicycle without training wheels. They are also usually interested in new kinds of wheeled vehicles like scooters and skateboards and will continue to play with these toys at least until their teens years.

Children at this age group are very competent in riding bicycles, and scooters. Their bicycles and scooters may be more sophisticated than the ones they used when younger. They are also interested in kid ride on toys from name brands and ones which have hand gears for different speeds. Apart from bicycles and scooters, these kids are also interested in more sophisticated battery powered vehicles.
